Restaurant
In de centre of the Jordaan, near the Noordermarkt with on Monday's the famous lapjesmarkt (fabrics market) and on Saturday the organic market and the many wonderful shops in the Prinsenstraat and Herenstraat, is located the café de Vergulde Gaper ('the quilted chemist's shop'). The café is, as the name suspects, situated in an old chemist and inside are many old chemist characteristics.
Outside is a large terrace with on the side of the façade heating for less perfect days. On sunny days the terrace across the street has the most sun hours in the whole of Amsterdam.Atmosphere
During the day a quick lunch or laze away the day on the sun-drenched terrace. Grab a drink with friends during the afternoon, while enjoying a 'bitterbal' or catch up with the locals. After dinner a cosy, informal atmosphere arises. And why not stay to finish off the evening (or start it...) as the students, tourists, locals, or whoever comes in! De Vergulde Gaper is a bar for everyone.Café De Vergulde Gaper
