Restaurant
Katoen offers a distinctive and warm atmosphere close to the most busy and touristic part of Amsterdam. A charming business without a fuss... You will meet students from the University of Amsterdam, but also tourists from the luxurious hotels nearby seeking a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. Many tourists also descend on the little terrace after a boat tour. And the local residents also find their way to Katoen. Therefore Katoen has that unique mix of guests which you truly only find quite like this in Amsterdam. The good coffee, great breakfasts and lunches do the rest. No dinner is served at night, however great snacks; perfect for after the theatre, a film or the first stop of the evening...
Café
That unique café atmosphere is the foundation of Katoen's success. An intimate spot right in the city centre. A cosy bar at night. People freely interact which leads to conversations between people that normally wouldn't meet, as they would go to typical student bars or tourist bars or more business-like places. Katoen isn't 'brown' or anything but certainly not "hip" either. It is also perfect to simply read your newspaper. Nothing is obliged. Katoen is Katoen.
Katoen is actually close to everything. Close to city hall, the Music theatre, the Waterlooplein, Dam square, the Munt, the Archaeological Institute of the UvA, the Mensa, Nes theatres, the Red Light District, the Kalverstraat, large movie theatres and so on...Groups
Katoen does not take reservations, however we do make exceptions for large groups. Please give us a call.
Terrace
The terrace is actually on the sidewalk, but the location is unbelievable! You will see tourist boats passing by, the busy (bicycle) traffic through the Nieuwe Doelenstraat, enjoying the sunshine with a cold bear. Come and enjoy. From very early till late.
