Restaurant
One of the "new" bar-cafes (since 1998), or café diner, which was successful from the start. It is the location, the delightful Noordermarkt with its many day markets and the fantastic atmosphere of the North Jordaan. But also the interior; no nonsense, modern without hip pretentions. Everyone feels at home here; the locals, the tourists, the students, the visitors from the "Lapjesmarkt" (Fabrics market) who stop by for a sandwich and the "clubber" for a good dinner or a night of drinks.
And not lastly for the food: the menu is well above average café level, and is aware of popular evergreens as the "Italian hamburger". For who wants a three course affordable diner, Proust is the place to be.See you soon!
Café
Proust has been busy from day one. People feel welcome, and don't have the feeling they have to do anything but enjoy the moment. Whether it is Friday evening drinks or doze off on the terrace on a week day afternoon with a great cup of coffee. On the busy weekend evenings the Noordermarkt and its surroundings are a great spot to go out on the town.
Proust's barkeepers are known as hard working "pub-crawlers". Here you feel, also due to the many bars and cafes, a relaxed atmosphere and this is the reason why so many Amsterdam locals find it a privilege to live in this city and especially the Jordaan. Here you also find the 'nice' tourists, as Proust is just off the beaten mass tracks. This is Amsterdam in the year now, at its best...Groups
Large group reservations are slightly difficult at Proust as it is usually too busy. But please do call us with your request and we will see what we can do.

What can you say about our terrace? You have to be quick, as it isn't very big, but you will sit first class! During the day a lovely sandwich with "market view", during the afternoon quiet with a coffee or drink, and during the evening we literally have to work hard to keep everyone within "terrace boundaries". What can you say, that is also typical Amsterdam. During summer evenings there is a cosy flow over atmosphere with our neighbour Finch.

Reserveren
Reservations are limited. And, sorry, we are quite strict: 20 minutes after the booked time we give away the table, as we do not want to keep people waiting unnecessarily.
If you are late, you will have to just wait for another available table. Don't worry usually this is within half an hour, and waiting at Proust's bar is not the worst that can happen!
